Third Way President Jonathan Cowan’s Statement on the President's Address to a Joint Session of Congress, and the Nation
“With the nation at its most uncertain in generations, Americans needed to hear a steady, powerful and visionary message from their new president last night. President Obama delivered, with a speech that challenged Congress and the American people to put aside procrastination for decisive action. As the President said, ‘the day of reckoning’ has arrived – on our consumptive economy, dependence on carbon-based fuel, an inefficient and expensive health care regime, and a checkerboard education system that is not up to the standards of a 21st century economy. The President warned America and Congress that nothing about solving our nation’s problems will be easy; but as he said, America doesn’t do things because they are easy, but because they are necessary.
“We eagerly take up the President’s challenge, and we look forward to working with him and with Congress on the hard things that will revitalize our economy, remake our energy infrastructure and restore American confidence.”
