A Note to AGS Visitors

Americans for Gun Safety (AGS) and the AGS Foundation (AGSF) have been folded into Third Way, an organization founded and operated by the former AGS and AGSF management team.

For Third Way’s latest gun safety policy and message guidance, please visit our gun issues page. There you can also find reports produced by AGS in a special sub-category.

For current gun safety data and other information, we recommend the American Hunters and Shooters Association, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, and Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

Third Way Staffer Reports on His Deployment to Iraq

'Third Way In Iraq' Feature Will Chronicle One Marine's Experience

Sean Barney is a Senior Policy Advisor at Third Way. Serving in that capacity, Sean has been an integral part of the first year of this organization, and his outstanding work played a significant role in our development and on much of the content found on the pages of this website.

Sean is also a Marine Corps Reservist. He enlisted in the military just after 9/11, while a senior member of the staff of Senator Tom Carper. Lance Corporal Barney is a machinegunner with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines and in October 2005, he was called up to serve a tour of duty in Iraq.

Sean has agreed to send periodic reports — to be posted in the Dispatch section of this website — describing his service and sharing his observations, beginning with his training at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, CA. Of course, we do not know how frequent or how detailed these Dispatches will be, particularly when his battalion deploys to Iraq, but we will post them here as we receive them.

We know that you will join us in wishing fair winds and following seas to Sean and his fellow Marines who are headed to Iraq.
